Johnson County Man Bribes Examiner, Ends Up In Jail (Indiana)

A New Whiteland man trying to obtain a Commercial Drivers License was arrested by Indiana State Police when he paid an examiner $700 in bribe money. The suspect, 21 year old Gurjit Singh, received a CDL learners permit in early October. Last week Singh returned to TDI and wanted to get a permanent CDL immediately and offered to pay the examiner. Singh was told by the examiner he would need an appointment and needed to return at a later date. When Sing left, the examiner immediately placed a call to the DOR who contacted the ISP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division for assistance in the investigation. Singh arrived at TDI approximately 9:00 am and was met by the TDI examiner. Singh paid the examiner $700 to receive a CDL license. He was arrested and charged with Bribery, a class C felony. A class C felony is punishable by up to eight years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
