This NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates Site at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (SDSMT), the University of South Dakota (USD) and South Dakota State University, provides undergraduate students a chance to conduct cutting-edge research focused on security printing and anti-counterfeiting technology. Counterfeiting is a growing issue in the U.S., posing serious economic, safety and national security concerns. The REU program is a multi-disciplinary program with research opportunities in Materials Science and Engineering, Materials Chemistry, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science.

 

Program Description

·         10 week summer research program (May 30 – Aug 4th)

·         Hands-on faculty mentored research

·         Technical and Professional Development Seminars

·         Social activities (including hiking, canoeing, barbeques)

·         Enjoy the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota

 

Award Information

·         $5,000 stipend

·         Room and board provided

 

Eligibility

·         Undergraduate students majoring in science, math, or engineering

·         U.S. Citizen or permanent resident

·         Minorities and women are strongly encouraged to apply
